The Association was founded in 1989 by a small group of child care providers whose goal was to improve Family Child Care. Today we are a volunteer driven group of over forty members. As a non-profit organization, we provide support to members from Duncan to Salt Spring Island, including the Greater Victoria Region.
You have the opportunity to attend 9 workshops from September to June (excluding December). This is a wonderful networking opportunity with the child care community. All our workshops are available for members only.
Have you ever had a question on how to answer a parent concern/complaint or licensing issue? Ever need help with where/who to write/send your concerns to? Wanted to ask someone questions about licensing regulations or policies? Wanted to respond to bad press but did not know where to start? These and many more issues are what our Grievance Committee is available to our members for. The Grievance Committee handles any and all requests in a professional, private and confidential manner. See your newsletter for the committee listing.
As a member you have access to a laminator for a minimal fee. The laminator is at Rena Laberge’s house at 677 Kent Road (#250-727-6176) and the cost for laminating is $0.75 a foot (18 inches wide). Please phone to make an appointment to use either the laminator. Another service that is available to members is you can bring laminating to a meeting and it will be done for you returned at the next meeting to be paid upon pick up (no extra cost for members to use this service).
SVIFCCA puts out 5 newsletter issues per year (September, November, January, March and June) that is filled with current information on issues locally and from around the province, workshop opportunities for you and the community (post on your bulletin board), seasonal craft ideas, upcoming field trips and much more.
With your membership with SVIFCCA you have an affiliate membership with Canadian Child Care Federation, which gives you a national voice. CCCF puts out a national newsletter called “Interaction” which you receive with your membership. Check out their website at https://www.cccf-fcsge.ca/
When you are a member of SVIFCCA you also are a member of BCFCCA, which gives you a voice provincially. You receive a newsletter from BCFCCA, which will give you information about what is happening around the province in the child care field. BCFCCA also has items for sale such as record keeping calendar, caregiver contracts, and emergency cards. Both of these items are very useful tools in your day-to-day operations. Check out their website at www.bcfcca.ca
As an individual member you are able to join in on the planned monthly field trips at a nominal fee (reduced fees charged to large groups and effectively negotiated by our committee members). The Special Events include a Christmas Party, Theme Day on every other May in honour of Child Care Month and Summer Picnic on the other month of May. Please note that this service is not available to our group members. All group field trips are cancelled until further notice due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Did you know that parents can call our Contact Line @391-6556 to get child care referrals. If you have any openings now or in the future please contact either the contact line or email SVIFCCA at email@example.com so that we may assist you in filling your vacancy.
