Our meetings/workshops are held every fourth Thursday of every month (excluding December, July and August). We meet at North Douglas Pentecostal Church,
675 Jolly Place. The doors open at 6:45 p.m. with the meeting starting at 7:15 p.m.

"Appetite to Play"

Presented by Appetite to Play Instructors

The APPETITE TO PLAY interactive workshop for early childhood providers will enhance knowledge, skills and confidence in creating childcare settings that support healthy eating, physical activity, food and physical literacy to promote healthy child development. Early childhood (0-5) is a critical time for setting the stage for lifelong healthy behaviours. During this workshop planning tools, tips and ideas, recipes, games and activities will be shared and practiced. Participants will receive a booklet to help them get started and an overview of the APPETITE TO PLAY online resources.

The workshop is three hours in length and will count towards professional development credits for early childhood educators.

January 24th, 2019(Thursday)
"Drama & Storytelling with Toddlers and Preschoolers"
Presented by Emily Holden

Want to take your wee ones to the beach but it's raining? Wish you could have another way to explore feelings and empathy without a time out? In this workshop, Emily will present a participatory drama experience that will showcase various techniques and conventions that child care workers can apply to their daily work with young children. Emily will begin with a brief discussion on drama, what is it, and how it can be used. The following workshop will illustrate the ideas as we start and stop for discussion. Participation is encouraged.

"Preschool Yoga"

Presented by Lauralee Wood

Lauralee will be sharing with you the many benefits of yoga for preschool aged children, how you can incorporate some simple kids poses and games into your day, sharing resources and ideas for how to make yoga fun and doing some yoga demonstrations. Group participation is required and if you have a yoga mat please bring one.

"Introduction to Singing English"

Bonnie will be giving participants a better understanding of Singing English philosophy and some song-games that you can use right away with your children.

"Introduction to Nature School"
Presented by Anna St. Denis

Anna St. Denis will be presenting practical skills and knowledge about nature schools to encourage outdoor play for children and educators alike. She states "As an educator I am often asked about the practical aspects of running a nature school. What do you do in "bad" weather? What about toileting? How can you inspire children to play without toys? Anna will cover all of these questions and more!

"Gender Diversity for Child Care Providers"
Presented by Kingsley Strudwick, Ambit Gender Diversity Consulting

All children and youth deserve respect, care and equal opportunities to reach their full potential. How can we create safer spaces and experiences for our young ones who are exploring and expressing gender creative and diverse ways? Join Ambit Gender Diversity Consulting for an evening of education, resource connections, and space to explore your questions about how providers can best support gender creative children and families in your programs and communities.

This is a registered workshop only. There will not be any drop ins for this workshop. Registration is first come, first served for members, with a limit of 30 participants. SVIFCCA members will be given priority until March 31st, 2019, after which waitlisted non-members will be considered. Closing date for registration is June 13th, 2019. We are expecting this workshop to fill up fast - register now by sending an email to Samantha at samantha.eckard@shaw.ca

Cost: Free to SVIFCCA members. Non-members must pay $10.00 per person at the time of registration confirmation. Payment details will be sent in the email confirming that the non-member is off the waiting list.
